ABOUT US

Established in August 2006, Step~N~Motion is the premier swing-dance group of Austin, Texas! Instructors Bartel “Bart” and Kathy James discovered the dance in October 2001 when they moved from Austin to the Dallas area where they lived for four years before returning to Austin.

Many people ask how Step~N~Motion got started.  Austin was introduced to “Dallas Swing” when several people noticed Bart & Kathy dancing at a local night club and asked them about this particular swing style. They modestly shared their knowledge and dance talent with anyone who was interested and the rest is history.  From the humble beginning of teaching just seven people, the group has grown tremendously and exposed swing dance to a multitude of people. 

Step~N~Motion featured its first graduating class in May 2007.  Since then, we now host an extravagant graduation celebration every six months in September and March.  We have been featured in the local media such as the Channel 8 News program “Fit for Friday”,  Austin Urban Music Festival, the prestigious Ambassadors Ball, and performed at many local community events.
